Through its 9th Annual Virtual Achieve with Us Colorado Film Festival: Don’t Stop Believin,’ The Arc Pikes Peak Region invites the community to enjoy a collection of short films celebrating the achievements of people with I/DD.
Virtual Film Festival goers will watch the collection of short films at their own leisure, from Monday, March 22 – Friday, March 26, and will enjoy a virtual afterparty on Friday, March 26, 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm, featuring prize giveaways and a panel discussion with local filmmakers and advocates.
More than popular song lyrics, “Don’t Stop Believin'” is an encouragement to press on with your dreams and goals, living each day to the fullest – even in the midst of such a challenging time in our world. Don’t let circumstances determine what you will believe about your life this year.
This year’s powerful short films invite the community to keep on believin’ in a bright future, as films like The Interviewer challenge prevalent stereotypes about hiring employees with I/DD, and Wheelz Fotheringham highlights the humor and risk-taking mentality of an athlete who is un-bound by his wheelchair. Additionally, the film festival will feature films by local filmmakers, including “Twice Exceptional,” and “Lonely Highway.”
The stories depicted in this year’s film festival pave the way for the opening of The Arc Pikes Peak Region’s Personal Development Center, Building for Change, which will provide a place for the visions and dreams of people in our community to become reality. Through a computer lab, resource library, multipurpose space, teaching kitchen, and more, Building for Change will serve as a springboard for the visions and dreams of people in our community.
“We hope that these films give people reason and inspiration to support our cause and to dream with us for the future, Craig Severa, film curator and advocacy specialist at The Arc PPR said. “We are changing the culture for the better for people with I/DD.”
The Arc Pikes Peak Region is a Colorado Springs-based nonprofit whose vision is a community where all individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) are embraced and respected.
