Often, people with I/DD are isolated from the community and struggle to create lasting, meaningful relationships.

Their days are punctuated by doctor, therapy, or other appointments, with service providers rotating in and out of their lives. According to a study in the journal Perspectives on Psychological Science, the subjective feeling of loneliness alone increases the risk of death by 26 percent!

Through social opportunities, life skills classes, and more, The Arc Pikes Peak Region is changing the culture of loneliness and isolation for people with I/DD and their families to one of rich, genuine connection.

Our Inclusive Personal Development Center, Building for Change, offers a safe place for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to create relationships with one another.

Rosie, a self-advocate and one of The Arc Pikes Peak Region’s 2021 Achievers of the Year, looks forward to all that will be offered in the Building for Change multipurpose room.

“I’m really excited about the Building for Change multipurpose room, because it will offer a place for me to take classes like art, dance, yoga, writing, and more with my friends.”

Check what Rosie has to say in the video below.
